and that ball is belted, deep to right field...

first of all, i'm absolutely thrilled beyond words that griffey is coming back to the mariners. he's home again, right where he should be.

now let me rant for a moment. all these "fans" are coming out of the woodwork singing mariners praises, just like they did when the seahawks went to the superbowl. they're making me look like an asshole. but at least i'm an asshole who has watched every game of every season since before i can remember.

i count down the days to spring training, and then opening day every year. i buy a veggie dog and spill ketchup on my pants every time i'm at safeco. i clap, snap, and stomp with all the organ music. i play the hydroplane game and always root for the green one. i play the hat game and lose the ball and still guess its under number two. i wear mariners gear year-round. i still get goosebumps when i watch edgar's double and see griffey on the bottom of the pile at home plate. i still get so excited watching old games, even when i know what happens. i cried with joey after the indians game, and i cried when dave neihaus was inducted into the hall of fame. i'm still thankful that i didn't throw up on bret boone when i met him at fanfest and took a picture of me on second base.

that is what being a real fan is. it's skipping your college graduation to go to a mariners game. a mariners game, by the way, that we won, beating the giants, striking out barry bonds* for the last out of the game. it was so worth it. its not about having our superstar back (which, like i said, i'm so stoked about), its more than that. its deeper than wins and losses, which we've been on the less-than-ideal end for more seasons than i care to remember. my heart has baseball stitches on it. 108 of them. does yours?

el trabajo.

i like working alone. especially in the mornings. it keeps me busy and forces me to wake up and accept that the day has started and i need to get with the program. i get to keep the temperature where i want it. i get to listen to the music i want. i get to read my book - or blog! - when its slow, without feeling obligated to make small talk.

here's some tips to customers... if you want good service, follow these guidelines.
DON'T pull up to my window on your phone and then get upset when i'm speaking to you. i understand you can get a call two seconds before you pull up, but don't get mad at me because there are people behind you and you're whispering your order to me, as not to upset the precious person on the other line.
DON'T tell me what our prices are. when your $25 prepaid card lasts 2.5 days because you spend almost ten bucks a day on coffee, dont act surprised when your money runs out. 12 shots of coffee a day isnt healthy, you fat lard.
DON'T ask me where another girl is. if you dont like my coffee, then don't come when i'm working. if you want to talk to someone else, then come when you see her car, or call her. i'm not a secretary and i don't know or care where someone is or what they're doing when they're not here.
DON'T leave your ginormous truck running while trying to speak to me. i can't hear you.
DON'T play your music so loud you blow out your speakers while you're waiting for your drink. no one wants to hear your shitty music.
DO tip me lots of money and tell me i have pretty hair

the start of a story i wrote a looong time ago...

She was a wreck. Not just any old run-of-the-mill neighborhood fender bender. Oh, no, she was a four-car pileup in the middle of the southbound highway and another three cars on the northbound side from watching the first wreck too intently. All eight lanes backed up for miles and miles. Call the kids and tell them to heat up last night’s lasagna and tuck themselves in because you’ll be lucky to make it home for the eleven o’clock news.

Today was nothing out of the ordinary. Waking up before the butt crack of dawn, pushing the snooze button too many times, and scrambling to get out of the hole she called a home on time. Beverly Taylor gave up on her ultra-frizzy hair after fifteen minutes of pleading with it to behave itself. “I’m uncontrollable and there’s nothing you can do about it,” it teased her each morning. She threw it in a ponytail and decided to forget about it until tomorrow’s battle.

She was battling a severe bout with PMS and could barely bear to be awake. ‘I look like a pubescent teenager,’ she thought to herself looking at the acne covered face staring at her in the mirror. ‘Note to self: stop at the drugstore and stock up on concealer and zit cream.’ Digging through her closet, she chose a loose fitting skirt and a revealing top. Not that anyone was going to see it under her gorgeous work apron, but it made her feel better knowing that her top half was still on her side while her uterus was trying to murder her.

Grabbing her everything-but-the-kitchen-sink shoulder bag, she was almost out the door when her phone rang. ‘Who would be calling me at this hour?’ she wondered, slightly irritated. It was her mom. Of course. She adored her mom to bits, but cringed at her perfect timing, or lack thereof.

“Why are you answering the phone? Shouldn’t you be at work right now?” her mother questioned.

“Um, yeah, Mom, I’m on my way out the door. If you expected me to be at work, why didn’t you call my cell? You know I’m getting rid of my regular phone, so you need to stop calling this number. And what are you doing up now? It’s 4:30 in the morning.” Beverly sounded a little less than pleased to be hearing from mommy dearest right now and hated being annoyed at her, but it was frustrating when her mom only remembered the things she wanted to.

“There was a special on the home shopping channel for this amazing new kitchen gear that I just couldn’t miss! Pots, pans, knife sets, blenders, juicers…anyways, Boo, I’ve got a…friend I’d like you to meet.”

Shit. This always meant trouble. “Mom. I’ve got enough friends. I don’t need you to set me up on any more dates.” This was a weekly occurrence. “My hairdresser’s nephew just moved into town, and I think you two would get on great.” “No thanks, Mom.” “But he’s handsome. And he’s a pharmacist. He could get you free prescriptions!”

That was enough for one morning. “I’ve got to go to work now, Mom, I’ll call you later.” First thing on today’s list: Join the Witness Protection Program to escape everyday family escapades.

you've got mail

we diiiiiid iiiitttt!!!!

jesse and i mailed invitations yesterday, and people are already getting them and calling to rsvp! crazy, right?! we had to take pictures because we're dorks like that, and people were looking at us in the post office like we were nuts. its such a relief to get them out of my hair! of course i'm an idiot and decided to make them myself, so they (along with everything to make them) were alllllll over my poor house. kitchen counter, table, side tables, couch, everywhere. now i just have to clean up all my scrap stuff...

it snowed here on tuesday. i hate the snow. its cold and wet and stupid. i love to sit inside with a hot cup of coffee and a blankie and watch the snow fall. i hate everything else about it. it turns to slush or ice, neither are easy to walk on or drive in. naturally, i had to run about a million errands on tuesday, and the snow didn't start until after i got to work, so i was just wearing my (backless) slippers, like i do everyday. after i swam through the costco parking lot, the inside of my shoes were cold and wet, as were my socks. being the inventive genius i am, i took my socks off and put them on the dash so the defrost would not only keep my windows clear, but dry my poor socks too. it worked and i had to do it everytime i drove from one place to the next :)

today's list is of random things i love right now:
schoolhouse rock
quiet afternoons at home by myself
watching wheel of fortune & jeopardy every night with jesse

think i'm gonna stay home, have myself a home life

i love being productive. productivity is fairly difficult in a blizzard, but i managed to do it. slowly, but it's done. mostly. still one more trip before friday for a sneaky mom valentines present :) i went to costco and shopped for the stand and bought some hummus and the new card pack for myself, cash & carry for more stand stuff, hit the mall to get some valentines and birthday gifts, and finished at the dollar tree for some little last minute valentine stuff.

today's list of favorite things is of my favorite shops...

target (obviously)
archibald sisters
mariners team shop
the little flamingo shop in the mall in ocean shores
bookstores of all sorts (except the adult variety...)

anyone want to give me some money to do some more shopping?

dessert first

i really dont want to cook dinner. i want happy teriyaki to cook dinner. and then bring it to my house. of course i dont want to pick it up myself. i gave up jeans for the rest of the day and my love pink pants arent really 'going out in public' material. anyone want to be my personal chef? i'll make yummy noises and tell you how wonderful you are.
to put things simply, i love dessert. all kinds of dessert. i love ice cream. i love brownies. i looooove cake and i loooooove pie. today's list is my favorite desserts. in no order whatsoever, because different moods call for different desserts.
devils food cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting (in a bowl of milk, or course)
lemon bars
eskimo cookies
peach pie
gold medal ribbon ice cream from baskin robbins

as you see, i've got biceps to spare

well, i've already failed the shortest month of the year. oh well though. no time to start like the present.

i have to say, i've been very very very stressed lately. miraculously enough, it hasnt even been with wedding stuff this last week. give me till next week and i'm sure that will change. but for now, it's work. it's incompetence, it's embarrassment, it's shameful, and it's downright hurtful. i cant even think about it because it makes me physically sick to my stomach and gives me a headache. so my list today is things that relax me.

showers until the hot water runs out
watching disney movies
playing pogo
drinking on patios ;)
